Evaluation 7: Looking back at your preliminary task (the continuity editing task), what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to full product?

At the start of the year we was asked to film a perlimary task, on a normal camrea using adobe premier to edit the clips we shot. We had to use simple skills such as 180 degree rule and a shot reverse shot, in our clip you can see we have used both of these. We only used basic editing skills on Adobe premier however things where diffrent when filming our final horror title sequence and opening. When filming this we was able to use A HD camrea and we was able to edit on a Mac book, this was very good and as you will be able to see from the images the final products was much better then the prelimery task we was set. We only new basic skills when we was editing at first however after working with the Macs and using a software called final cut, our skills increased and we was much more advanced which meant our film was much better. The macs gave us a lot more transistions and effects when editing compare to adobe photoshop which wasa very basic programme. The HD camreas gave us much better and clearer footage then the noraml camreas, and with the clear footage and better editing it made our film a lot better. At first it was hard to get used to the Macs but after a while it became easy.

These two pictures are frame shots of the editing and the footage on the mac and hd camreas.

These two shots are from my prelimary task of my editing and normal footage.

As you can see these images and the editing are not as effective as the images above that are taken from the Macs.

Evaluation 6: What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

We used a programme called blogger to write down everything we done in and out of lessons. This meant we could keep up to date with all the work we had done. This programme let us keep all our work in order meaning we wouldnt loose any of the work we done which could have happend if we wrote our work down on paper. This site was easy to use and only took a little while to get used to the layout.

This is a picture of me using Blogger on my media account which meant i could access youtube and other sites which i may have needed to make my blog the best it could be. Blogger we was able to use on a normal PC however we had to have a certain account in school to mean we could access the site however their was nothing stopping us from using this at home to do extra work.

When editing our film we was priviliged enough to use the HD camrea which meant we was editing on the Mac-books. this was a whole new experiance for us as we had never used one before however after we got used to it we found it easy to use which helped us los because the software on the sytem called Final cut was very up to date and made out editing really easy and good.

This picture shows me using final cut which was the software we edited on, this was really easy to use after we got used to it and it made our editing better.

This picture shows me using the HD camrea and the Tri pod when shooting a clip, we found this camrea very easy to use, and we felt it gave us a great image on our shots. We had used a normal camrea before and using the HD camreas was not do diffrent, it just meant we had to upload our clips to the Macs not a PC.

This is a picture of the HD camrea we used.

This is a picture of the Tri pod we used which helped us gain steady shots without the camrea shaking.

evaluation 4: Who would be the audience for your media product?

demographics:

Age: The age of our target audinece will be between the ages of 15-24, this is because they will be the main people who will want to go to the cinema to watch a 15 cetificated horror film, also they are the most commen people to attend a cinema.

Gender: The main gender i will aiming my film at was male or female. I did not want to aim it at one gender because i feel both male and females will want to watch the film, however males may enjoy it more because sometimes females do not like horror films and are more intrested in comedy dramas or love films.

Class: Our film was aimed at working middle class people because i feel they will be most likely to travel to the cinema, I also feel this class will socialize a lot with their peers and will want to maybe go for a night out to the cinema.

Race: My films is aimed at all races because i do not feel that their is one specific race who will enjoy the film more.

Geographical location: Our film will be shown in the East Anglia and then hoping to expand to the rest of Britain and will be hoping to expand our film to a bigger location hopefully to the whole of the UK.

Physcographics:

Intrests: The main target audinece would be teenages, who are often out sociallising with the friends. This is a commen way off getting groups of people to attend a cinema and watch our film. We also feel teenagers will enjoy the film the most because they can relate and enjoy the film as it is a moden made film which maybe the older audience may not enjoy. The music in our film is aimed to make the target audience jump and keep them intrested in the film the music will add tension for teenagers and will add to the suspence.

Belifes: We want our target audience to belive our film is a true story which after they have watched the film will keep them scared and talking about our film. at the start of our film we have a reall 999 phone call giving them straight away knowlege that it is a true story.

Values: Our opening must scare the audience because they realise it is a real story and this acctually happend.

Target Audience Research.
For my target audience research i created a questionaire that relates to our own film, to see how they reacted to watching and so we could get feedback on their thoughts, therefore meaning we could improve our film if needs be. this is the survey we created to get feedback on our first draft of our film:

1)would you watch the horror film after seeing the title sequence and opening scene?
2)what do you feel we could change to make it better?
3)does the story line make sense?
4)do you feel the genre is easy to recognize?
5)does the music fit well with the shots?
6)do you feel their is enough shots/shot types?
7)have we edited the footage well?
8)what do you feel is the best part of our film?

on this we got some very good feedback which we then took, and improved our film as much as we could so it would appeal even more to the target audience.

evaluation 2: How does your media product represent particular social groups?

in this picture as you can see on the left is the killer who is featured in our horror film and on the right you have also another killer who is in the film silence of the lambs acted by Anthony hopkins. we feel our actor is just like him as, in the pictures above you can see both of their eyes, they are both daunting and look simular to each other with a hint of horror in both of them. in our horror film our murderers main focus had to be his eyes because the rest of his face is covered just like in the film silence of the lambs when Anthony Hopkins is killing someone most of his face is covered however just looks like a normal guy when his face is not, which is the same as the character in our film. also the people are both normal people by day however are horrific without nessasarly knowing. both the killers have the same reason to kill this is because they are both phycologically disturbed, and this is shown in ours when the killer is taking his anger out on a teddy bear which is not a normal thing to do.

evaluation 1: 1In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? (i.e. of film openings)

in what ways does your media product use, develop, or challenge forms and conventions of real media productions?
above is 9 shots of diffrent clips in my film.

In picture 1 you can see we have called our film reminiscence this is because it means memories which our film is based on we also have the date and the back background with a silver font makes it look scary. Picture 2 shows the setting we used you can see the house in the background this is the house where the victim was found therefore is our main setting. Also in picture 3 you can see some of the props we used in our film these are the knifes that are laying out on the murderers table this shows danger and horror.
Picture 4 is showing some of the editing we used. This shows the font we used where it is being shadowed also we edited in the roles we played in the film as you can see “edited by Shane McDonald and Josh Davis”. Picture 5 shows the titles font and style we wanted a black background with a title that stood out and we made it silver with a bold font to make it look scary but as simple as possible. Also picture 6 shows how the opening starts which is with a 999 phone call which shows the police are involved.
In picture 7 you can see how we showed in the opening scene it was going to be a horror by using the words gruesome and murder these are negative words that make you think someone has died a horrible death. In picture 8 we see how the first character is introduced which is the murder you never get a clear image of him but that is what makes it mysterious. in the final picture, picture 9 we see how we used special effects in our film we made the candles which were on the table darker just before it fades into a different shot.

Changes.

In our films you can see we have made many changed throughout, this is from our planning and then from the feedback we was given. We originally planned to make a film just like the story bored and planning show, however when we filmed and we edited we came up with ideas we thought would be even better and would help our grades. This is the reason we have no planning on the phone call because this was a last minute decsion as we thought it worked better then the original idea of the filmed phone call convasation. we also planned to use many locations however we ended up only using one of the locations we was planning, this was because we thought we would film a lot more then we did as we ran out of time. Our original film was 2:20secs with all the locations, we then decided to take them out and add the phone call. We then made the first draft and the feedback that came back to us was really possitive and we new we made the right desision to do the phone call and not film the convosation, however the feedback gave us a few changed we should have made and we then made them to get our final copy. The plot however still stayed the same we just had a different concept on how the film would start. Our production company also did not change as we liked this name and the look of the logo their for kept it the same. The script was only changed a little bit however the concept was still kept the same with a news report and phone call however the script we originally made we thought would be too long therefore we took some of the lines out of this. We firmly belive the changed we made really helped our film and we feel it benifited a lot by making these changes.

Group original script

scene 1 - A child's plea(Scene begins with a long shot of a mother and child, they are standing near a road and the child is being disciplined by the mother, the child is holding a red balloon)

Mother - (angrily) Look at me when I'm talking to you!

Child - (defiantly) I am!

Mother - Don't you backchat me!

Child - I'm nooooooot!

(Shot changes to a high angle shot with a close up of a hand grasping a doll, looking down upon the pair from a window.)

Mother - (threatening) I've had enough of you! You're grounded, you just wait until I tell your dad!

(Low angle shot of the rising red balloon that the child has let go of in a panic)

Child - (afraid) No! Please don't tell dad! I'm sorry!

Scene 2 - Crime Scene

(Initial long shot of news reporter in front of a crime scene)

Reporter - (Calm with an undertone of fear) Police tonight launched a multiple murder enquiry after the    gruesome discovery of a mutilated body around 7pm yesterday on Shakespeare Road.

(Low angle mid shot of covered body being removed from the scene)

Reporter - (freaked out) It is believed to be the fifth in a series of killings where the body is left... with a doll?

(Close up of doll)

(Transition to a zoom out shot of two people watching the report)

Reporter - (Regaining composure) Police still have no leads on the case and are appealing for witnesses. Just when will it end?

(Couple exchange worried looks on the sofa)

Josh - Did you hear that? That's the road Shane lives on! (anxious)

Kelly - (comforting) Maybe you should call Shane, just to make sure he's alright?

Josh - (picks up phone) OK, you're right, I'll call him.

(cut to a close up of side table/chest of drawers type object with phone vibrating on top)

(Hand suddenly jumps on phone)

Josh - (Hesitantly) Hello? (pause) Shane?

(unknown individual brings phone closer to face, hand has a res substance over it in parts, shot cuts out anything above the top lip)

Shane - (sinister voice) Shane's not here right now.

Josh- (Scared and worried, looks over to Kelly for support) Who is this? Where's Shane?!

Shane - (Still sinister) He's Dead! And I'm coming for you next...Josh.

Josh - (Increasingly scared) This isn't funny, who is this? How do you know my name!?

(Shows full face)

Shane - (laughing) Just messing with you, it's Shane.

Josh - (relieved yet angry) Don't do that ever again!...you had me worried.

(Shane looks out of window onto the crime scene)

Shane - (smugly) Sorry mate, it had to be done.

this was our original idea of a script however the words of this could change slightly when we are filming the scenes because we may have a change in ideas if this doesnt work

Group title ideas for our horror.

We spent a lot of time trying to find a name for our film to be called. we wanted to relate it to the plot and however we was struggling so we asked for some help and we decided we maybe wanted a one word title with a date that would represent something therefore we decided the date should be a date that is usually a happy date which would make it worse if anything bad was going to happen which we decided christmas day would be a good date therefore we just needed the one word that we could also use we wanted a word to do with memorys and first of all that was going to be the title we also came up with :
  • memories 25/12/01
  • forgotten 25/12/01
  • imortal 25/12/01
  • reminisance 25/12/01
automatically when we saw Reminisance 25/12/01 we thought that was the perfect title for our film. so we stuck to it and we knew this would be the title of our film.

Group sound and music.

we think sound if very important in our horror movie to add tention and to make it more scary for the audience to watch therefore we want to add lots of sound effects when editing. we would also like to add a scream into one of our shots at the end this is dramatic, however we feel it worked well in the famous film Phyco and would like to see how it works in ours.

the sound we will be using throughout our opening scene and title sequence will be mainly found on the website http://incompetech.com/m/c/royalty-free/ however we plan on using this for the news report we have in our opening scene we also plan on using sound effects which will be found on the programe we will be using on the apple mac pro. this is because it is good sound effects to make our title sequence more interesting and better. we also plan on mainly using diagetic sounds so most of the noise will come from the filming for example when the hand hits the window which is a shot we hope to product we hope to use a thud to scare though audience and shock them, however when we edit we may emphasize the noice to make it louder and quicker to make it more effective.

in our title sequence we hope for a faced paced loud music to make it strong and scary, this is because we want lots of quick cuts in the title sequence however if we do use slow cuts we may have to use a slow pace music to suit the images on screen. we may also have a slow paced music played lightly throughout the opening scene to give it a minor background sound however we have not decided if we will use this yet this will be decided in the editing.
